Helen's Story

When Scotti asked me on the phone why I wanted to have a photoshoot, I paused - the reasons seemed too many and too big to summarise. But I'll give you the one that, with hindsight, seems to encapsulate the truth: after years of chronic illness and major surgery that left me with pain, scars and visible nerve damage, I was too angry with my body to enjoy living within it. I needed that to change. I needed to find a way to connect with my body again. Scotti listened, as did Barrie, and by the time I arrived for my photoshoot I knew they were aware and considerate.

I hadn't realised how much even having Scotti do my hair and makeup would make me feel better, though! And yes I was nervous, but as the three of us worked together over the course of the day to try different poses, outfits, and expressions, I found myself enjoying the process more and more. In fact, I'd wholeheartedly recommend a photoshoot even without the final pictures - the entire day was empowering and confidence-building and undeniably fun!

Then came the process of viewing the photos, choosing my favourites, and working with Barrie to create a luxury photobook. The end result was everything I'd hoped for. The photographs are stunning, and throughout I felt totally comfortable and in control. Whenever I look through the book I feel sexy and proud of myself, and I can see how much I enjoyed being in my own skin that day. My cheeky expression reminds me to channel that sense of fun and confidence whenever I need it.

I'd recommend Barrie and Scotti to anyone, whatever their situation. The day will be different for everyone - in a positive way, because we are all different - but I've no doubt that the experience will be transformative, and Barrie's undeniable talent and skill means that your photographs will be exquisite.
