Kinga's Story

The photo shoot, or rather the beautiful album resulting from it, was a birthday present for my husband. All done in secret, so as not to spoil the surprise.

First, I got in touch with Barrie to discuss the plan. Right from the very beginning, he was open to my ideas. Then I put together a brief, as this is something I myself find very helpful to work with, especially as I was going to use at least six different outfits. I was amazed at how quickly Barrie could change the lighting set-ups to complement the outfits and create the mood for each variant described in the brief.

The shoot itself went brilliantly. Barrie had arranged a make-up artist to help me prepare for the shoot, and I also had a hairdresser friend with me to assist both Barrie and me during that full-day session. The teamwork was incredible! I felt completely at ease, relaxed and comfortable (minus the challenging poses!) and absolutely enjoyed the experience!

After we finished, I could take a shower at the studio to hide any evidence from my husband, who was to pick me up from a train station afterwards, obviously not knowing where I had just been! Barrie dropped me and my friend off at the station so we could catch the train to Edinburgh and hide the outfits at my friend's before I saw my husband. Luckily, my travel back home from the station was on a motorbike, as a passenger, so I could hide my hurriedly-and-not-quite-well-removed make-up under the helmet. It was in the bathroom at home that I discovered that my toenails still had the red polish on them! Fortunately, I managed to remove it before my husband noticed anything. Needless to say, he was amazed and truly moved when he saw the final selection of the photographs in a beautifully designed album on his birthday.

Thank you, Barrie! Your expertise showed at every step - right from the planning beforehand and communicating during the shoot, through taking the photos to selecting and editing them, and finally delivering the album. In fact, the selection proved to be quite difficult because there were hardly any we wanted to reject, remember?
